Melanie Mason, Cellist
Cellist Melanie Mason is thrilled to return to LOTNY after playing for the company’s productions of Rossini’s Opportunity Makes the Thief and Holst’s Savitri. From New York to Tel Aviv, Melanie has been privileged to be a part of distinguished ensembles among world-renowned conductors and soloists. As a member of the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Melanie performed in concert halls around the globe for a decade; she also played for several seasons with the Israel Philharmonic. Melanie was principal cellist of the Israel Sinfonietta and played regularly with the Jerusalem Symphony.
Throughout her career Melanie has especially enjoyed playing opera, as she did during a season with the Sarasota Opera. A widely experienced theatre musician, Melanie has played many long-running shows on Broadway, regionally, and nationally; she’s also accompanied popular artists such as Aretha Franklin and Tony Bennett. Melanie recently performed in the Irish Repertory’s Donnybrook! and toured North America with Star Wars: In Concert.
She studied with William Saputelli of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and completed her degree in cello performance at Oberlin and Juilliard.
